Formats and competitions
The six formats, and how a competition keeps one address across its sponsors' names.
Every match belongs to one of six formats, and the format filter uses the same names everywhere.
| format | What it is |
|---|---|
test | Test matches |
odi | One-day internationals |
t20i | Twenty20 internationals, men's and women's |
t20 | Twenty20 leagues and domestic T20, such as the IPL and the T20 Blast |
multi-day | Domestic first-class cricket, such as the County Championship and the Sheffield Shield |
one-day | Domestic one-day cricket, such as the One-Day Cup |
One competition, one address
Competitions change their names with their sponsors. Each match is recorded under the name used at the time, so the T20 Blast appears as NatWest T20 Blast, Vitality Blast and Vitality Blast Men. We fold those together under one address, t20-blast, and each competition lists the names it was filed under as also_filed_as. Filtering matches by competition therefore gives you every season, whatever it was called.
